JON NIEMEYER ended 36 years of service at the BBTC on March 14th - - - - On friday 3/11/11 The Senior Men's Round Robin hosted a DAY OF RECOGNITION for Jon ---- over 80 tennis players and friends were in attendance to wish Jon farewell and to thank him for being such a friend to tennis over the years. - - - - - FRIDAY 1/14/2011 the DeKalb county Board of Commissioners, while some 20 or so members of our playing group stood and looked them in the eye, voted to replace Jon Niemeyer and Operation Tennis Inc as the management entity at the two north DeKalb tennis centers...............The new contract to manage, operate and maintain the DeKalb County Tennis Centers at Blackburn and DTC was awarded, via a bid process, to Universal Tennis Academy (UTA) of Marietta, GA...............It was noted that this action was taken without so much as a, "thank you" , "job well done" or " your 35 years of service to the county and the tennis community has been appreciated", to Jon ......... our group which is the oldest continuously active tennis group of its type in the county was stunned by this callus attitude .........It is very likely the change will occur in early February and whether or not it will have an effect on our senior group remains to be seen.... the ball is in UTA's court and it is their serve!
